Roots - Natural Aesthetics in the Terrarium
Hardscape elements are an integral part of terrarium design. Their purpose is to give the terrarium layout a natural appeal while also serving as a base for planting and decoration.
Hardwoods such as mopani root or river wood can be an important part of terrarium design, as they give plants the opportunity to settle epiphytically while also serving as hiding and climbing spots. In addition, our selected types of wood provide a natural look for the various types of terrariums and a particularly true-to-nature appearance.
Depending on the type and size of the terrarium, roots are placed deliberately and combined or glued together. The perfectly assembled sets in our shop offer creative freedom and save you lengthy research into the right combination of woods. With the contents of a set, you can create different heights and levels that give the plants more room to grow and develop. Using mosses, ferns and ground cover plants can also help the roots blend perfectly into their surroundings.
In our online shop, you can buy numerous different types of wood that differ significantly from one another and can be used in all kinds of biotopes, including semi-wet ones. The very popular Red Moor Wood, often also sold under the trade names Spider Wood or Finger Wood, offers a particularly natural look thanks to its delicate branches.
When using wood in a paludarium or aquaterrarium, keep in mind that constantly moist wood carries the risk of mold forming at the transition from the water column to the air. This mold usually disappears on its own, but it's advisable to flood such constantly moist areas at regular intervals. This measure can help prevent mold from forming.
All in all, wooden hardscape in the terrarium offers the opportunity to recreate the plants' natural environment while creating a visually appealing design. With targeted placement and combination of the hardscape elements as well as sufficient LED lighting, you can create a terrarium that is not only visually appealing, but also offers optimal conditions for the growth and development of flora and fauna.
