Description
This bulb plant originates from rivers in Cameroon. It forms very narrow, crinkled, dark green leaves 40-120 cm long. Crinum calamistratum grows more slowly and needs more light than the other Crinum species.
Crinum calamistratum is a bulbous plant from western Cameroon that was collected in a river near Kumba; its occurrence appears to be very limited.1 The species name translates as “crinkled”, which matches the crisped margins of the dark green, ribbon-like leaves; although only 0.2–0.7 cm wide, these reach 70–100 cm or, according to other sources, 40–120 cm in length.123 One hobbyist name for it is Crinum natans “crispus”.1
Compared with C. natans and C. thaianum it grows much more slowly and reacts very badly to replanting; a nutrient-rich substrate at least 8 cm deep and tanks at least 50 cm tall are advisable, and strong water movement appears to benefit it. (read more)
