Description
The Ozelot swordplant is a colourful, vigorously growing Echinodorus hybrid. It was bred by Hans Barth (Dessau, Germany) in the early 1990s and remains very popular in the aquarium hobby. Characteristic for this cultivar are narrowly elliptic submerged leaves that are brownish-red with dark red spots during sprouting. Older leaves keep their dark spot pattern but their basic colour changes to dark olive. The leaf rosette is about 20-50 cm tall and 20-40 cm wide.
Echinodorus 'Ozelot is also recommendable for aquarium beginners, but as well as other swordplants, it prefers nutrient-rich bottom and at least moderate lighting.
With its maximum height of about 50 cm, The Ozelot swordplant is best placed as solitary plant or small, loose group in the midground to background of rather large tanks.
The hybrid Echinodorus 'Ozelot' was raised by Hans Barth of Dessau, who crossed E. 'Leopard' with E. × barthii; its name alludes to the spotted pattern, which recalls the wild cat of the same name.124 At a width of 3–4 cm, the blades reach 10–15 cm in length and are narrowly elliptical in shape.13 As a leaf ages, its base colour changes from brownish red to dark olive green while the spots remain; the youngest leaves carry the darkest spots.1234

Eine sehr schöne Pflanze
Ich habe eine kräftige Pflanze in bestem Zustand bekommen.
Die Pflanze ist schnell angewachsen und treibt bereits nach zwei Tagen schöne, tiefrote Blätter aus.
Die neuen Blätter werden mit der Zeit etwas heller.
Aktuell kommen pro Woche zwei bis drei neue Blätter nach.
Wie beschrieben sind eine gute Beleuchtung, eine gute Mikro- und Makro-Nährstoff-Versorgung, aber auch CO2-Düngung sehr förderlich für den Wuchs, eine zusätzliche Düngung über das Substrat scheint bei der Ozelot jedoch nicht unbedingt erforderlich zu sein.
Als Einzelpflanze macht sie sich hervorragend, also nur zu empfehlen.

Echter Blickfang
Abends bestellt und 23 Stunden später stand sie schon im Becken. Herrlich!!!
Die Pflanze war in bestem Zustand. Nach ein paar Tagen trieben schon die ersten neuen Blätter aus und die alten wurden abgestoßen. Dann passierte erst mal nichts. Aber dann explosionsartig schoss sie in die Höhe. Misst mittlerweile 35cm und die einzelnen Blätter in den schönsten Farben strecken sich auch auf gute 20cm. Hätte ich nicht erwartet. Wow!
