Description

Lilaeopsis brasiliensis can grow very densely, but it only grows like a lawn under very intensive light. When planting, make small tufts and put them into the ground with a distance of only a few centimetres, as the plants form an uninterrupted lawn more easily this way. The planted area should be without shade so the plants get sufficient light. Also suitable for a garden pond, and it tolerates the low salinity of a brackish water aquarium.

Lilaeopsis brasiliensis is a grass-like member of the carrot family with a creeping rhizome that colonises swamps, ponds and the banks of slow-flowing rivers in Argentina, Paraguay and south-eastern Brazil.1 The leaves, usually no more than 6 cm long, are hollow below and end above in a flat, narrow spatula.1 In the aquarium literature it was confused with L. novae-zelandiae and L. attenuata, and the frequently used name “New Zealand grass” is also misleading, as the plant comes from South America.12

This small plant slowly grows into a low lawn for the foreground.13 Although it manages with moderate light, the lawn only becomes dense under strong, unshaded lighting. (read more)

Mixed feelings - unfortunately not great

Lilaeopsis brasiliensis - 1-2-GROW!

Hello, I ordered 20 pots, unfortunately 8 of them were no longer in very good condition. I assume they will take root, so hopefully it's not so bad, but it was clearly noticeable... (read more)
