With the potted plant and/or bunch delivery methods, it is very important that the plant is not planted directly with invertebrates. The plant should be soaked for at least one week with regular water changes. The nurseries' source material for these delivery methods mostly comes from Asia. Invertebrates could be harmed when the plant is added to an established aquarium. There should be no problems with a new setup, but you should still carry out regular water changes here as well.

Description
This narrow-leaved Vallisneria is listed by aquarium plant nurseries as "Vallisneria rubra". However, it should not be confused with the Australian species Vallisneria rubra (Maidenia rubra), a stem plant with a completely different appearance. We have provisionally labelled the plant Vallisneria sp. "Rubra" because its species affiliation is unknown to us. With its very narrow leaves, it is reminiscent of Vallisneria gracilis ("V. nana"). In good light, the leaves take on more or less reddish, sometimes copper-red tones. They have a pattern of short dark horizontal stripes. In our aquariums, this Vallisneria has formed 50 - 70 cm long, 3 - 4 mm wide leaves. The leaves end in a narrow tip and have tiny teeth on the edge.
Vallisnerias generally require little care and are suitable for aquaria without the addition of CO2. However, at least moderate light intensity and nutrient supply are recommended. In our experience, Vallisneria sp. "Rubra" is not as fast-growing as Vallisneria spiralis, for example. The reddish tones develop mainly in strong light. The plant propagates by runners, as is typical of Vallisneria, and forms a dense population. If it spreads too much, newly appearing runners can be removed.
Vallisneria sp. "Rubra" looks decorative with its grass-like, light green to reddish leaves as a dense stand in the background, middle ground or on the side walls of larger aquariums. Although the plant can grow to around 70 cm tall, it has a rather fine texture due to its narrow leaves.
