The beauty of aquascapes can be considerably impaired by a film on the water surface. Especially when immortalizing layouts in photos, it is very important to remove the surface film first. The ADA VUPPA-I surface cleaner was developed for exactly this purpose. Simply placed in the aquarium, the problem takes care of itself. In planted aquariums, you should avoid the water surface rippling too much, since otherwise the supplied CO2 can escape quickly. Unfortunately, an unsightly film quickly forms on a calm water surface. It is even more pronounced when beneficial bacteria in the tank and filter system are not active enough. If a strong surface film forms in your aquarium, you should first check the condition of your filter system. In the long run, though, a certain film is hard to avoid in planted aquariums. Even Takashi Amano, the visionary behind and passionate photographer of Nature Aquariums, ran into this problem with his aquascapes and their likenesses in photos.

No matter how beautifully the plants have grown, a water surface with a surface film considerably impairs the impact of a layout and makes beautiful pictures almost impossible. About 20 years ago, Amano took on the challenge and developed a small device that removes the film quickly and reliably. It was a simple skimmer with a small motor and a cylindrical housing. This skimmer was used for years as a secret weapon by ADA employees. In 2011, the idea was marketed commercially under the name ADA VUPPA-I. It owes this name to its inventor Takashi Amano, who derived it from the Japanese Bubbanasu ("the firing of a cannon"). The comparison also works in German, because the ADA VUPPA-I does its work "like shot out of a cannon", that is, quickly and thoroughly. Since the product launch, the ADA VUPPA-I has attracted a lot of attention and impresses with its high-quality stainless steel construction. This original from ADA was used and optimized for years in the ADA Gallery's own tanks for countless aquascapes and photo shoots.
