Description

Environment Aquarium Soil is an active substrate consisting of various fired and sterilised earths that was especially developed for aquarium use. It naturally lowers and stabilises the pH (depending on the parameters of the water you use, the pH will be lowered to 5.5 to 6.5) as well as water hardness and thus creates optimal conditions for softwater plants and animals in your tank.

The special properties of Environment Aquarium Soil make your water crystal clear. The fulvic acids contained in this substrate help create an optimal environment for plants, animals and microorganisms from day one.

Features

  • Environment Aquarium Soil is also suitable for use with undergravel filters
  • The Powder Type is not suitable for this due to the small grain size
  • On fish like that, permanently turbid water might be the result
  • Not suitable for fish, shrimps or plants that need a high pH
  • Made in Japan
  • A slight turbidity of the water after setting up the aquarium will cease after a short time given that the filter works properly, and the water will be crystal clear afterwards
  • Recommended soil height: Minimun 4 cm

Usage

  • Do not rinse before use
  • Spread the substrate evenly, or create your individual layout
  • Fill in water carefully and slowly

In order to avoid upsetting the substrate when filling in water it is recommendable to use a small plate or something comparable to break the water stream.

I only want to use the soil as a filter material, as an experiment. Is it heavily pre-fertilized, and which nutrients does the soil absorb until it is saturated? Many thanks in advance.

Soil can generally be used as a filter material. However, keep in mind that soils for planted aquariums also release larger amounts of ammonium in the beginning, which leads to an elevated nitrite level or, in the worst case, is converted to ammonia if the pH is too high. Both nitrite and ammonia would be harmful to the stocking of the aquarium and can even cause the death of animals. The advantages as a filter medium are the temporary water-softening effect and the large surface area for bacteria to colonize. In this case, the soil should always be placed in the filter inside a filter bag. However, since soil does not stay stable in shape permanently, it can also lead to increased particle output from the external filter, which then clouds the water. Soils can not only release nutrients but in some cases also bind them in large amounts. Above all, micronutrients and other cations (potassium, calcium, magnesium) are bound by soils. With some soils (mainly unfertilized soils for shrimp tanks), phosphate can also be bound to a greater extent. All in all, we would not recommend using it in an external filter, as uncontrollable changes in the water parameters are to be expected. A reduction in water hardness can be achieved much more simply with, for example, a reverse osmosis system, which would then also always provide constant conditions. The release of humic substances and fulvic acids from the soil would be a positive property, but this can also be done in a more controllable way using appropriate products.

Is the soil already pre-fertilized, so that you don't need to use root tabs or liquid fertilizer at first?

This soil is a low-nutrient substrate. The focus is more on keeping the aquarium water consistently soft and acidic, for example for shrimp. We recommend supplementing the nutrient supply through the water column, for example with liquid fertilizer.

Have only ever used this one. Does what it's supposed to do and noticeably lowers the pH. Also well priced for a soil.

Guter Soil

Habe immer nur diesen hier verwendet. Macht was er soll und senkt den PH Wert deutlich ab. Für Soil auch gut im Preis.

Had the soil for a week in the scape and in the snail tank. Very satisfied so far. Both the plants and the snails seem to be doing great. My plants are growing like crazy. (read more)

Mein erstes Soil, bisher super!
